About The Arthouse

Arthouse "Marc Chagall" is specialized in the graphic art of Marc Chagall. We value his work highly of course and because of that we also value its authenticity. About fifteen years of collecting and the experience gathered in years of the gallery plus the choices made in the collection enable us to give unrestricted guarantees on the authenticity on the artworks we offer.

In 1999 the gallery was founded in Amsterdam, by the owner, Leo Verdegaal. Of course the gallery had to bear the name of the man who would be in the spotlight.

After more than 9 years on a beautiful spot in the Jordan quarter, we moved to a very different, but equally beautiful place in the village of Bergen, about 50 kilometers to the North from Amsterdam.

"The first time I encountered a lithograph by Chagall I was pleasantly surprised that I could afford it. Until then I didn't know there were many unsigned, but real, lithographs, that were made in higher editions and therefore not as expensive as I thought work of an artist like Chagall would be. Once I had found out how and where I could look for more Chagalls, I couldn't stop collecting. I spent quite a lot of time (and money) in looking for other items, mostly abroad."

This led to the idea to do something with the graphic work of Chagall professionally. It was not easy to get by and certainly not in The Netherlands.
